
Girl's Kindergarten - Second Grade
CYL's K-2 Girls program is a great place for your player to start learning the basics of lacrosse at a young age. We focus on building your players' fundamentals as well as their love for the game. We have designated five Saturdays throughout the season as game days. Each team will play 2 games on each playday. At the K-2 level, we will play 4 v 4 with some adjustments to the recommended USA lacrosse rules.
Boy's Kindergarten - Second Grade
CYL's K-2 Boys program is a great place for your player to get started learning the basics of lacrosse at a young age. At this level our novice players include all Kindergartners and new 1st graders. Our advanced teams include returning 1st graders and all 2nd graders. Our K-1 novice team competes in jamboree style games, where they play 2-3 games, on Saturdays in 3v3 format that limits contact and focuses on learning ground balls, catching, and throwing. Our 1-2 advanced team competes in jamboree style games, where they play 2-3 games, on Saturdays in 6v6 format that limits contact and focuses on learning ground balls, catching, and throwing, in addition to shooting, offensive and defensive formations, and positioning. Our entire K-2 program is based on a first to sign up basis and does not include tryouts.
Girl's Third and Fourth Grade
CYL's 3-4 Girls program builds on the K-2 experience and allows players to begin to play on a bigger field with goalies. At this level, all teams play 8 v 8 (7 field players and a goalie). We have designated five Saturdays throughout the season as game days. Each team will play 2 games on each playday.
Boy's Third and Fourth Grade
CYL's 3-4 Boys program builds on the K-2 experience and allows players to begin to play on a bigger field with goalies. At this level our novice teams, or "B" teams, include a lot of "new to the game" players as well as returning players. In the SDYLA 3-4 "B" league teams play 7v7 with a goalie and learn to clear the ball, simple plays, cutting, picking and defenders are allowed to use long poles. Our 3-4 advanced, or "A" teams, include our returning players and a lot of players who play travel lacrosse year round. In the SDYLA 3-4 "A" league teams play 10v10 and learn similar things to the "B" teams in a larger and faster environment that introduces them to the type of lacrosse they will play at this level through college. Playoffs and a SDYLA championship are also introduced at this level for the SDYLA "A" league. Carlsbad is happy to have won the 2022 SDYLA 3-4 championship!


Girl's Fifth and Sixth Grade
CYL's 5-6 Girls program builds on the 3-4 experience and allows players to begin to play a faster game of lacrosse with more strategy and focus. At this level, teams play full field, 12 v 12 with appropriate USA lacrosse rules. We have designated five Saturdays throughout the season as game days. Each team will play 2 games on each playday.
Boy's Fifth and Sixth Grade
CYL's 5-6 Boys program builds on the 3-4 experience and allows players to begin to play a faster game of lacrosse with more strategy and focus. At this level our novice teams, or "B" teams, include some "new to the game" players as well as returning players. In the SDYLA 5-6 "B" league teams play 10v10 with a goalie and learn in-depth strategy, offensive plays, defensive slides, and goalies become a more dynamic part of the game. Our 5-6 advanced, or "A" teams, include our returning players and a lot of players who play travel lacrosse year round. In the SDYLA 5-6 "A" league teams play 10v10 and learn similar things to the "B" teams in a larger and faster environment that introduces them to the type of lacrosse they will play at this level through college. Playoffs and a SDYLA championship are also available to "A" teams at this level. Carlsbad is happy to have made the semi-finals in the SDYLA 5-6 "A" playoffs!

Girl's Seventh and Eighth
CYL's 7-8 Girls program builds on the 5-6 experience and allows players to begin to learn the style of lacrosse that they will see at the highschool level. At this level, teams play full field, 12 v 12 with appropriate USA lacrosse rules. We have designated five Saturdays throughout the season as game days. Each team will play 2 games on each playday.
